John's passion for radio goes all the way back to his childhood in Oklahoma. "I remember laying in bed at night as a little kid, listening to all the great disc jockeys from the 70s," he recalls. "I used to pretend I was a disc jockey with my turntable and my little tape recorder." Then, when John was 16, he visited a radio station as part of a school project. "I think the assignment was to produce a 60-second spot for a used car lot or something, and I had access to a station in Oklahoma City through a friend's father. I'll never forget that night when we all met up at the station. I walked in, and that was it. I knew right then that this was what I wanted to do. It was one of those moments you don't forget."

During college, John spent three years on the air at KGFY "Y-105.5 FM" in Stillwater, Oklahoma. It was there he first met his wife, Jan. "God blessed me when He crossed our paths," John says. "Jan is such a wonderful influence on my life and I'm thankful for her everyday."

Today, John gets your day started with music, encouragement, and good cheer. "I'm a silly-heart by nature - I guess God made me that way. But I take my work very seriously. It is very, very humbling to be a part of KSYE. I can't think of a more fulfilling job than coming here each day and serving the Lord, while working in radio. It's a great way to spend the day."

About me:

My passion: Radio is my passion - I love everything about it. I love the fact that we pray on the air here - you don't find that at just any station. KCBI is a very special family.

What about your family brings you the most joy? Laughter, no doubt about it. Jan and I spend most of our time laughing together - or at each other.

How I relax: Watch The Three Stooges or Star Trek DVDs (Kirk only!), play some fetch or tug-o-war with the coolest dog in the world, Maddie - and of course, listen to the radio! I also love Ham Radio, RVing, and target shooting at the range.

So how come you shave your head? My hair is extremely thick when it's long. I moved to Texas in the summer of 1998, and it was over 100 degress for like two straight months. I was driving around sweating one afternoon and I passed this barber shop and thought, "I've had it - it's coming off!" Jan was a bit, um, "surprised" when she got home that evening, but she eventually came around!
